Question
hey how you doing. i just got a ricoh Caplio R1 4.1mp digital camera, and it comes with a 'Macro' option. apart from sounding awesome when you use the auto focus, what does it actually do?

also, i have a Pentax MZ60 SLR camera.. is it a good starter camera for SLR photography?

Answer
Macro means that you have an extended range of close focusing. Using the lens may mean that you could focus on a flower from 6 inches (or closer) in order to completely fill the frame. Macro means small. Try it out, you'll be surprised at the world of the small that is out there. Close focusing will open up a whole new world for you.
The Pentax appears to have a good pedigree. It is a good starter camera for you. I would recommend that you read the instruction books very thoroughly, then read them again, and again. Learn to use your cameras so that you don't have to think about what you're doing. It just comes naturally.
Good luck to you, have fun. Having fun is what the cameras are for. Keep me posted, if you have any other questions, let me know.
