Question
I am making a documentary film about an American artist. I want to show a
photo of the well known psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung. If the photo is more
than 50 years old, has the statute of limitations for the photo run out, and
can I show the photo in a film?

Answer
This goes into the question of who owns the rights to a picture. I believe that if he is no longer alive, you would be safe. However, you may wish to Google this answer thru the WWW. Look for a site that offers legal advice, particularly on Copyright law. I think you'd be all right to use the photo, that the limitations have run out. To be on the safe side, if you know the photographer's name and the publication that the picture was in they may have a claim to the rights of showing the picture since it's part of another publication. I wish I could be more specific. If your photo has a photographer's name on it, I might mention that. I know this is a short answer but you're talking about copyright law. This is what you should Google for. I know that you can copyright photos and renew the copyright one time, but I don't know the length of time. Let me know if I've helped. Thanks for asking.
