Question
In about 2 to 3 years im going to have to move from my current state New York to Oregon, so im trying to figure out what would be best.  Should I wait to move and then take the necessary steps to become a cop or do it here in New York and try to get transferred?  So basically im trying to figure out how hard it is to be transferred that far away.  How much time would it take. An could I do it at all.

Thanks for the help

Answer
John:

In my opinion, it would be easier to get hired, certified, and trained, as an LEO prior to moving.  Most departments would rather hire someone with a proven record, and then retrain them in some type of comparative compliance course, than hire them as a rookie.  Saves the Dept money in the long term.  There is no such thing as a "transfer" state to state, you have to go thru most of the entire process all over, no matter what state you are already certified in.

Best of luck!

Jason
