hi my name is starr and i would like to know can you have a k9 by choice when you are on duty? and another question how much do you get paid?

Starr,

 In order to become a K-9 officer you have to be chosen by the Department and then sent to intense training along with the dog they decide to assign to you. The starting saliers average mid $30's to mid $40's I would say. This all depends on the Department. They can go up as high as $65,000.00 for a Ptlm. depending on the department. Plus there is also overtime available.

I have been assigned to the vice unit, the tactical response team and am currently a certified crime scene investigator and a certified Police Instructor. I am curently retired on disability after being injured in the line of duty. I retired on August 23, 2000 after 23 years as a Police Officer. I am now living in the Ft Myers Florida area..
