Question
Hello, My Husband wants to be a police officer in maryland and he is concerned that he will not be hired because of his past.He turn himself in for a felony when he was in his teens and the guy didnt take him to court over the issue,he didnt press charges, luckly. He has tried extacy, cocain, and mushrooms all no more than three times. But he used marijuana for years, and quit at the age Of 19.He had a misdemenor for theft less than $500 and recieved a probation before judgement. He is now 24 years old and has  expunged his misdemeanor and has be clean from all drugs since 19 or 20.If he is honest with the police dept.can he be a police officer or should he move on with another career move?

Answer
KD:

He can try, but I'd think because of the drug use, he's going to be disqualified.  The extensive marijuana use alone is a DQ in this state, and the cocaine and ex as well pretty much eliminate him under the 'moral turpitude..drug use' clause.
