Question
Hello!

Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings..

I have always wanted to be a police officer. It's been my dream since before I can remember.

I'm trying to get an idea of how LE will affect my husband and children. I know different departments have different schedules and things like that, but other than schedules, what other problems might arise with family?

Also, what is your feedback on women officers. Challenges I might experience, etc.

Thanks!

Answer
Kara:

If your husband is NOT a police officer, he may have feelings of loss of 'manliness' (you will, after all, be the one carrying a weapon and doing manly type things, and he will not...).  That might become an issue unless he is very secure with himself, and you doing what you want to do.  Your kids will likely worry but will probably love it.

Most male cops don't have an issue with female officers, as long as they pull their weight.  You don't have to 'out manly' them, but you do have to do what they do.

So, if this is what you want to do, then GO for it.  Just have your eyes wide open going in.
