Question
Hi My Names Kris Hack I am a 17 year old student in Nikiski High School in Alaska. My Question is that I have herd going to the Military does not transfer over well to the police force and I was wondering if that was true. Second of all i was thinking of joining to be a Mp or "Military Police" in the Military and after my 4 years of college and coming out to join the Police force and I was wondering if they would still make me a recruit or would I be a higher rank due to my Military service?
Thank you for your time looking forward tou your response

Answer
Hi Kris,

You will be happy to know that Military Training does convert over to law enforcement in some states, like here in Florida. In Florida if you were in the military and attended MP school, when you get out after three years of service, you do not have to go to the academy! You attend a two week course and can then take our state exam to be a cop here. I was an MP myself (981st MP Co, 3rd Infantry Division).

Also military training helps a lot with law enforcement training since they are both related to each other. Having been in the military first, I find a lot of my recruits do much better in the academy because they have the self-discipline and attitude needed to perform well. I highly seek out and recruit prior military people.

You will not start out at a higher rank, but you will definitely find it easier to do after having been in the military.

The US Army MP School is transferable to many states law enforcement certifications.

Good luck and good for you!
