Question
My friend is 30 and has been trying to get into corrections or police work, but has a misdemeanor theft charge on his record from when he was 29. It is a big misunderstanding, but he will not be off probation until June of this year. Will he be able to get a job in this field or is he wasting his time?

Answer
Lisa,

Of course I don't know the details as written in the Police report concerning your friend. Being that it was 1 year ago, I would advise him to give it some time prior to applying. After he's been out of trouble for a few years he could apply then. This is my personal opinion. If it were me I would not give up my dream. He would not be wasting his time. Just give it some time to be off paper before applying.

Good Luck

Jim
