Question
Hi, I am Jeremy Jensen, a Junior in High School. I did a ride-along with a k9 officer through the citizens academy in North Central FL, and became interested immediately. Im in the process of receiving my AA in Criminal Justice my senior year in H.School, and will be going for my B.S in Criminal Justice shortly afer that. I was wondering once i pass my police academy and l.e. exam, how long does it take to get into the k9 unit? Any help is well appreciated! Thanks!

Answer
Jeremy, glad to hear of your interests. Now, most agency's require a minimum of one year on the road. I would like to see 3-4 years so one can get his street sense of the criminal element. Now, once you have attained the agency requirement you must wait for that opening which with most agency's takes awhile. But thats it in a nut shell.
Good Luck
Paul
