Question
i am a florida certified police officer just got done with the acadmey in and i plan to move to georiga will my certificate from florida transfer to georgia? with out retaking the acdamey over again

Hi Chris,

You can but you have to have at least three years of active full time law enforcement work in order to transfer. Here are the Georgia State P.O.S.T. Rules (Police Officer Standards and Training):

Q:     I have previous law enforcement experience in another state or with the federal government.  Can I transfer this certification to Georgia?

A.     Possibly.  If you are certified in another state or were a federal peace officer and have not had a more than three (3) year break in service, you may be eligible to exempt portions of the Georgia Basic Law Enforcement Training Course.  If you feel that you meet this requirement, you may request an equivalency rating.  In your written request, you must include:

Basic Course Completion Certificate
Copy of State Issued Certification, and
Law Enforcement History (Resume)

But since you said you just got out of the Academy, I guess this does not apply to you. SO I would have to say, you will have to attend Georgia's Academy unless you put three years in Florida first.

I am a 30+ year veteran police officer, I am currently the Police Academy Commander of an Academy in North FLorida. I have been training police officers since 1993 and have trained them in all aspects of law enforcement, including firearms, Driving and legal subjects including patrol techniques and others and training all over the world. I have trained over 5000 officers worldwide in the last 16 years of training.
