Question
QUESTION: Do Police Sniper do the same training as SWAT teams? and do you have to be in a SWAT team to be a sniper in the police force, or is there different jobs that call you for a precise person with sniper training? like could I be a patrol man and get called upon in an emergency if they need a sniper? Thx allot for your time!

ANSWER: Clay,

When I was on the Tact team the snipers went thru some of the same training as the other SWAT officers. The sniper did have additional intense training as well. In some smaller Departments you can work in other divisions and still be in SWAT or a sniper. I would assume in the larger Departments when SWAT is used a lot it would be a full time job, especially with the training. Hope this helped somewhat.

QUESTION: Hey, thanks for your lucid responds it really helped! now I know that to be a sniper in the police force I would have to be in SWAT in large departments, now, do you know the vision requirements to be a police sniper in a SWAT team? I asked another person on here and he said your vision does not matter uncorrected to be a sniper, but I don't know if he meant Police Sniper in the SWAT??? any help? Thanks allot for your time I will surely rate this 10.

Answer
Clay,

I believe your uncorrected vision is not a huge big deal. As long as it can be corrected with contacts, glasses ect. I also believe each Department may have different requirements so you would have to check with the Department your interested in applying for.

Jim
