Question
I am a former Oregon resident. I recently found out that I owe the state over a thousand dollars in parking tickets from about eight years ago. My car is too be impounded if I am pulled over. I don't live there anymore but still plan to pay the tickets as soon as I can come up with the money, so my credit won't be ruined beyond repair. I am terrified to drive anywhere now, even though I am not living in that state. Can I be arrested for this? Does it transfer to a new state? I am scared and frustrated that I can't find answers. I'd appreciate any help and advice on who to call to get everything straightened out.

Answer
Sally,

Thanks for the question.

Have someone check the status of your driver's license and see if it is suspended or not.

Usually, parking tickets will not have and impact on your driver's license, but it depends on how Oregon treats parking violations, and weather they report them to the DMV office of that state.

If there is and outstanding warrant for your arrest on those tickets, it could pose some problems for you if an officer did a criminal wants check on you for whatever reason.

If you driver's license is suspended in Oregon, you might not be able to get a new license in another state.

Call the area that you received the tickets and see if they will take payments. Most cities will take payments versus not having anything at all.

Good luck and best wishes!
