Question
I live in Akron and I am studying Criminal Justice. I will be a junior in college this coming fall. I have a few questions. I got a DUI In 2006 when I was 19 and I was wondering if it is still possible for me to become a police officer and how much harder having a DUI will make it. Is there any way to have it removed from my record? Should I apply for the police academy now while I am still in school or should I wait until I have graduated?

Answer
Brett,

Everyone makes mistakes and they realize that, especially at a young age. If I were you I wouldn't let the DUI bother me. Akron is civil service I believe. If I am correct that means you will have to go to the city of Akron civil service Department and apply. Call Akron PD or City Hall and they can tell you the procedure. I would do it now because if they only give the civil service test every 2 years usually. You can also call Summit County So to see if they are hiring and what their procedure is. I hope this helped somewhat.
