William,
I am doing some research for a novel that is a murder mystery taking place
on Hilton head island. I had some questions about Beaufort County resources
and who handles what. Please see the following:

1) Who does the Sheriff of Beaufort County Report to?
2) Who handles autopsies for Beaufort County?
3) Does BC Sheriff's Department have DNA analysis capability, or is that sent
to Charleston or Columbia?
4) Can BC handle their own fingerprint analysis or is that sent out?
5) What is standard issue weapon for Sheriffs department? 9mm etc.

Ms. Vitolo,

1. The voters of Beaufort County. He is an elected politician.
2. The Beaufort County coroner arranges for autopsies. They are normally performed in Charleston, SC at the Medical University.
3. AS it stands now, DNA is sent to Columbia. However, The Sheriff's Office is trying to establish a regional lab.
4. Both
