Question
Hi, I have a question on all the background paperwork. I took my time and thought i had everything together and applied in Henderson NV. Then was disqualified for leaving something off the app. I have moved around a lot and had many jobs before and during college depending on my schedule. Some things i have noticed are: I am 33 and have had drivers licenses in 3 states but they only give records 10 years old. Also the S.S. office gave me a work history back to when i was 16 but there were a few jobs and addresses that were missing. Do you know if these are the records the Police Dept. is using or is there a better place to get records from. I hate thinking that i was disqualified because of something like a prior address or a job that i only had for a few weeks during college. One more thing what about military history/records. The unit i was with moved around every 4-5 months, and I'm not sure what is in my records should i try to get a copy of them or is it even possible, to make sure everything is covered?? I have nothing to hide but I do not want this to happen again at another dept. because they told me i have to wait a year to reapply.

Answer
Robert,

What was left off the application to disqualify you? I'm not sure I'm following your question completely.

When you fill out an application you should fill it out as completely as possible and not leave anything at all off of it. You should make it a point to obtain all this information now and not wait for the next application process, including all addresses and employment. IF the application asks for ALL past residences and employment then you need to provide ALL. If it only asks you to go back over the past 10 years then that is all you need to do.

As far as Military Records go you should have been given a copy of your DD Form 214 upon discharge. If you've lost this or misplaced it you can get an official copy If you are a veteran or next-of-kin of a deceased veteran, you may now use vetrecs.archives.gov to order a copy of your military records.

Good Luck
