Question
I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs located in Chicago, Illinois and I have been task to find out what is involved in the medical examination for Police Officer (not new hires). I can not find any policy that states the procedures for the medical examination. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Edward,

Some agencies require wellness exams every year, but most only require the initial hiring physical exam.

There are some instances where a medical exam would be performed, such as an injury in the line of duty. A complete medical exam would be needed to see if the employee could be released back to work, or an illness that places the employee out of work. Or a psychological exam after a traumatic event.

I am not sure of any other reason.

Thanks and best wishes!
