Question
Dear Sir,
I have a few incidents in my past that I am not proud of.  I'll get right to the point.  I was asked to resign from a summer pool I worked for because an older employee felt that I was irresponsible.  I was asked to leave because I told the kids on break that I would bring in my pilot gear I had in the car.  At the time I was studying to get my private pilot's license.  When I went to get it, one of the children followed me out to my car without me knowing.  When I turned and saw her there I told her to go back inside and told her that she wasn't supposed to do that.  They later asked me to leave and saying that it was inappropriate and irresponsible for talking about anything other than swimming with the kids.  Also, during my freshman year of college, I was working for a small airport.  For about a week I left an hour early and still got paid for the proper time.  I was caught but still worked there.  To my benefit, I have a bachelors and currently working on my Masters in forensic Science. I am a NAVY military police officer with a secret security clearance and will be for 3 more years.  Would a background like this be harmful to me in an application to a police force?

Answer
Hi Jarid,

Your background is fine. Those incidents you talk about are nothing that really is a problem. They probably will never even come up, but if they do, just tell them the truth and you will have no problems. If you can get a secret security clearance, you can pass a police officer background more than likely.

BTW did you know that being a MP that some states will accept your MP training instead of making you go to the police academy? You may want to look into that. In Florida its called the Equivalencey of Training Program. You can go here to look at it: http://www.policestandards.org/eot_faq.htm

Your background is fine, don't worry about it.

Be well... and thank you for your service to our great country!
