Question
QUESTION: I read a question earlier you answered about s.w.a.t . I am curious about the types of stuff does swat take care of  hostile situations , warrants , or hostage ??????

ANSWER: Hello Josiah,
There is no absolute agreed upon list of all that SWAT responds to, that I am aware of.
Each agency makes those determinations based on a variety of considerations.
Typically, SWAT will be called upon for Barricaded suspect, hostage situations, certain kidnap/extortion situations, high risk arrest situations, possibly rescue issues,
Dignitary protection, Suicide prevention, or suicide by cop situations, Violent crimes in progress. This is where an informant or U/C officer conveys information about a violent offense that is to occur.
This should give you a better idea of "typical" SWAT functions.
Also, keep in mind, that SWAT spends a GREAT deal of their time doing repetitive training exercises.
Hope this is helpful,
loren

QUESTION: i was also wondering the types of typical swat weapons ?
physically sniper like a .33 or .50 cal ?

ANSWER: Hello Josiah,
Here again, there are variables with each agency. That, coupled with what EFFECTIVE weaponry the officers are comfortable and proficient with.
Some snipers may still prefer the 243
I think a 50 cal is way too much everything. One shot can topple a telephone pole.
Some agencies may also prefer no fully automatic weapons, and stay with semi auto.
Remember, when the smoke clears, Internal Affairs, Inspections, Media et al are all in there counting bullet holes, and doing other analysis.
It just depends. A urban agency will opt for different weapons than an agency that is more rural.
Shot guns, and side arms are also matters of choice.
What ever the choice of weapons, the officers are required to be checked out and certified in their use.

QUESTION: that makes sense when you put it that way . Is there such thing as sniper school?

Answer
Yes, there is sniper schools.
Most are military oriented, as they factor areas of cover/concealment into the training.
Police agencies may receive certain permission to train with military, or they may do their own.
Many urban agencies are challenged by finding training facilities that will accommodate long bore weapons.
The police have different challenges and requirements than military, with the obvious exception...proficiency.
Good Luck,
loren
