Question
i would like to join the american police force from england,i am 40 yrs old,am i too old?

Answer
Hello Mr. Eaton,
For most American federal law enforcement positions, the cut-off age is 37.
For most local and state law enforcement agencies, due to age discrimination actions, there usually isn't an age limit.
But, you will be tested on a physical agility course and events, to ascertain if you can do the required physical aspects.
You almost have to talk with a human resource person or recruiter from the agency you are interested in, and inquire for the specificity on their hiring practices, and testing issues.
You might also consider looking into "regulatory" positions. They tend to have police powers, is specific areas of interest. They are usually investigative in nature, and address a wide variety of subjects.
A good place to look, is: USAJOBS.com
Then hit regulatory positions.
You might also consult with a representative from the U.S. State Department, Embassy there, in terms of citizenship issues for a law enforcement position in the USA.
Hope this is helpful.
Good Luck, and Regards.
loren
