Question
I am a senior in high school and I am looking at a career in law enforcement. Montana does not have much of anything in the way of SWAT teams, courses, or jobs. After I get experience as an officer, where could I go to further my career. Preferably as a SWAT team member or tactical sniper.

Answer
Hello Thomas,
Most metropolitan areas of law enforcement have a tactical unit. Sometimes, it is in the county agency, if the incorporated areas are made up of small departments.
But, you can figure any medium to large agency with have a SWAT type unit.
You might be interested in looking at the web site of the las vegas metropolitan police department...
Also, as I have mentioned on several previous Q%26A, figure on the primary agency functions first, if you are career minded. You most certainly won';t be doing a career in a tactical unit.
And, you might want to consult with military possibilities, like the Marines and the Army.
A very good resource, is your school career counselor, and family members.
Take the time to visit with agency members, of police departments you have an interest in. Most all of them have a web site.
To start with, prepare yourself for entry level service competition first....absolutely.
Good Luck.
