Question
Mr Grabill,
The last 5 years Ive been driving OTR as a truck driver and picked up a few traffic citations for speeding. Ive recently applied for a local law enforcement position and seem to have a fairly good chance of acceptance. Im currently awaiting a response back to take the MMPI and Assessment. As far as my history goes I have a Disorderly Conduct charge that was dismissed and other than that I got into some trouble when I was 15. So that brings you up to speed as to where I am, Ive been hearing from some of my friends at the PD that during the BI they do an extensive medical history on you and some conditions (medical) may prevent you from being eligible for employment. I have A.D.D. and had A.D.H.D. when I was younger. Im 30 now, is this going to be a problem? I currently have a concealed carry permit and based on the BI I had to go through to get that I dont think there will be anything to keep me from law enforcement on that end. My main concern now is to how extensive an "extensive BI" will actually be. If Im pursuing a dream with no chance for reality Id rather find out now rather than get shot down at an interview. I appreciate your time.

Sincerely,
Mark

Answer
Mark:

The ADD *might* be an issue but as long as you are not on meds it shouldn't be.

It's an extensive BI which will investigate all aspects of your life to this point.  The best advice I can give is to be totally honest and go from there.  Go through the process and see what happens, you won't know until you TRY.  That's the best advice I can give.  I don't see anything jumping out at me that would be an automatic 'no go'.
