Question
What kind of degree for college do you have to get. Or do you have to go to college?

Answer
Hello Cameron,
First, permit me to invite you to review some of the previous Q&A on my page. "SWAT" seems to be a common subject matter.
To your question, college isn't usually a SWAT qualifier. But, as the saying goes, education can help you be better, than without it.
Usually, there are various skill sets you'll need to learn, that are offered through your law enforcement training net-work.
Most agencies, require you to begin at the entry level position, which is to say: uniform patrol.
You'll need to distinguish yourself there, prior to being considered for any specialized assignment. I wouldn't count on a shot to a specialized duty, in less than 4-6 years.
There are a number of skills you can develop as you proceed with your law enforcement career. Also, being an "insider", you'll be in a position to discover what your particular agency is looking for in the talent department.
When competing for SWAT or any other specialized assignment, it gets pretty competitive. Who ever can pony up the best/most ksa's (knowledge, skills, abilities) will usually enjoy favorable results.
Good Luck, Hope this is helpful.
