Question
I have one on the back of my neck ( kanji symbol of love)
a huge one on my shoulder (but that's covered most of the time)
one on my hand (it's small between my thumb and index finger)
one on the inside of my right leg (ankle bone)
one on the outside of my left leg
and one on the inside of my right arm that's pretty big

Answer
Hello Mandy,
I don't belive there is ONE template answer that addresses your question, that would apply to all agencies.
You will more than likely, have to consult with the human resource folks at the agency you are interested in.
I would assume, there are a variety of issues associated with body art, while representing the government. It may be size, location, amount or numbers, and what the art conveys. Some of the art may have more than one meaning, which may be a distraction to that which you are commissioned to accomplish.
You could possibly inquire in the standards and practices of the agency personnel requirements, the agency labor contract etc.
Keep in mind, that the agency represents the community they serve, and the "perceived" messages conveyed with your body art may be inconsistent with that service.
I understand the Marines have limited tattoos in their ranks, and view "sleeve" tats as unacceptable.
Then, there are those who want to debate meanings etc. Like a tear drop on the cheek, or some type of obvious prison or gang tat.
Lots of issues to entertain. An agency does not want to get tangled up in matters that in any way distract from their mission.
That said, you should sitdown with a recruiter, and ask for an honest assessment.
Hope this is helpful.
Good Luck,
and regards.
