Question
Do you have to be a police officer before becoming a homicide detective? Or
can you take law enforcement classes and then be hired as one???

Answer
Heyleigh,

They pick the homicide detectives from the patrol rank. Most Departments give tests to be advanced into the Detective position. Usually you have to spend a minimum of 2 years as a Police Officer before you can take the test. Some Departments require longer. However it is a good idea to get a degree in Criminal Justice in order to get hired as an officer. Most Departments that hire off an entrance give extra credit on the entrance exam for having a degree. Hope this helped somewhat. If you need more help, just ask.
