Question
Hi. I live in the suburbs of GA and can't get a straight answer anywhere! I live in a well established, wooded hilly area and though homes have plenty of spaces for vehicles to park, I am constantly having to dodge them in mine! These people park their cars all over the main streets through this large wooded subdivision. So, I'm weaving like a drunk the entire way home to avoid cars and *plus* peoples yard debris they wish would be cleaned up also.
That said, Sir, I hoped you could tell me general rules on matters like this even if we aren't in the same state, I understand that.... but not all my neighbors!

Answer
Amanda,

Here is the problem with a question like yours.  We have fifty states.  Each has its own laws.  We have over ten thousand counties in this country and typically the counties pass their own parking laws.  We have tens of thousands of towns, townships, and smaller juristictions and every one of them have their own parking laws.

Thus there is no way for me to tell what the law is in your specific area.  I can tell you that if what you described was happening in MY county the owners/operators of these cars would have the right to park their cars wherever they please unless there were signs prohibiting it, near driveways, intersections, or fire hydrants.  I know that doesn't help you much as it applies to your neighborhood.

I don't see you mentioning that you talked to your local police.  Have you?

Expertise

U.S.: I am an expert in this category for the purpose of giving young people an idea what the hiring process involves for the position of police officer. I am getting a flood of questions from young people who are being influenced by unrealistic television shows. I'd ask you to consider that when you watch police shows on television that they are NOT realistic and most of what you see does not happen in real life. Please do not ask me about potential jail sentences that you, your friends, or family might receive in court. There is no way for me to know that. I am NOT a probation officer so I cannot answer questions about probation and parole matters. I am a retired police officer with 26 years experience.I worked in a variety of assignments including investigations, homicide, sex crimes, runaway investigations, missing persons, and fraud.I also dealt with the general public during that time giving a wide range of advice on matters such as domestic disputes, problem solving, teenage problems, civil/criminal matters, and dealing with the mentally ill. I am available to give sound and reasonable advice which can solve most problems. Please do not ask me to do homework questions or online interviews. Young people should not rely on the Internet for interviews. Local police officers are normally very agreeable to assist students with interviews and surveys.
