Question
I just recently started school for criminal justice, I know what specifically I want to do.  The thing is all i know how to do is describe it.  I hope you can help but a name on it. I would like to work with sex crimes and trying to keep track of sex offenders and moniter their comings and goings. I would like to try and change sex offenders laws.  I want to be involved with the internet watching for sex crimes on there. Can you please put a name and maybe what I will have to do schooling wise so i stay on the right track.  someone has to take care of the babies! Thank you.

Answer
I don't think that there is a specific name for the different jobs that you want to do.  In many juristictions the jobs that you describe are manned by police officers/detectives with many years experience.  In some juristictions I could see that a crime analyst would do some of what you describe.  Crime analysts are either disabled police officers or civilian employees of police departments with quite a bit of experience.

I don't think that anyone is going to walk in off of the street with a degree in Criminal Justice and do what you want to do.  It takes years and years of exprience to do any of the work that you describe.

Have you talked to your counseler at school about this?  Perhaps he could arrange an internship at the local police department and you could get a head start on your career.

Expertise

U.S.: I am an expert in this category for the purpose of giving young people an idea what the hiring process involves for the position of police officer. I am getting a flood of questions from young people who are being influenced by unrealistic television shows. I'd ask you to consider that when you watch police shows on television that they are NOT realistic and most of what you see does not happen in real life. Please do not ask me about potential jail sentences that you, your friends, or family might receive in court. There is no way for me to know that. I am NOT a probation officer so I cannot answer questions about probation and parole matters. I am a retired police officer with 26 years experience.I worked in a variety of assignments including investigations, homicide, sex crimes, runaway investigations, missing persons, and fraud.I also dealt with the general public during that time giving a wide range of advice on matters such as domestic disputes, problem solving, teenage problems, civil/criminal matters, and dealing with the mentally ill. I am available to give sound and reasonable advice which can solve most problems. Please do not ask me to do homework questions or online interviews. Young people should not rely on the Internet for interviews. Local police officers are normally very agreeable to assist students with interviews and surveys.
