Careers: Police/Becoming an Officer as a UK citizen

Question
My name is Oliver (Olie) and have recently gone through the process of
getting my greencard into the United States. I've always had a keen interest in
becoming an officer in England but getting my greencard has inspired me
into looking at law enforcement here in the US. I will moving to Orlando, FL
this August and was wondering if a UK citizen can apply to be an officer or
whether I will have to wait a few years in order to get my citizenship?

I believe that I have read somewhere else that you can, depending on which
state you are a resident within. Whether this is true or not is beyond me but
any answers would be terrific and much appreciated.

Thank you ver much for your time and look forward to hearing back from you
soon.

Olie

Answer
Olie:

Here is the OPD website, and the recruiting section.  You might give them a call.

According to the site, you must be a US citizen to apply.  However, I'd give them a call anyway, they will be able to give you a direct, 'no kidding' answer.

 Best of luck!

Jason
