QuestionI want to pursue a career as a crime scene investigator, but I have a mis. emebezzelment conviction & a DIP w/destruction of private property. Will this prevent a career in that field?
AnswerHello Angelo,
Hard to say on your question. It depends on a host of variables. Like, what were the circumstances and details of your two beefs, how long ago were they? etc.
Also, what are your credentials for the job you seek? what is the competition for that position on the agency you are interested in? etc.
Your first issue of embezzlement is tough to get past, as that is an area of fundamental honesty, which goes to character. The second issue of DIP can often times be explained, depending on the situation. Plus, the DIP tends to address issues of judgement, rather than honesty.
The best counsel I can convey, is for you to sit down with a human resource recruiter, and lay it all out. Then, ask for an unvarnished response.
Do this with several agencies you are interested in. If a pattern of unfavorable responses starts to be apparent, you'll pretty much have your answer.
If there is a glimmer of potential, then proceed with developing associated skill sets.
Good luck, and regards,
