Hi,

On true crime TV shows the result of a DNA test takes forever to get back to the detectives?

Why does it take so long: Because the test itself takes a long time or because there's a back log of tests to be done?

You basically have answered your own question.  The DNA test takes quite awhile to process and there are always a large backlog of cases.  Also not every police department has a DNA lab.  The medium to small departments have to send their DNA cases to either a state lab or to a private lab which takes even longer.

I am available to give sound and reasonable advice which can solve most problems. Please do not ask me to do homework questions or online interviews. Young people should not rely on the Internet for interviews. Local police officers are normally very agreeable to assist students with interviews and surveys.

Received numerous awards during my police career for expert investigations. Handled the most sensitive and confidential investigations. In 1999 I won an award for my work with high school students while working in my new career in a large suburban high school.
