Question
I am currently 35 years old.  I will be 36 in Sept.  I am currently going to school for Criminal Justice.  I will finish Pre-Criminal Justice in Dec. of 2010.  Then move on to a 4 year college for Criminal Justice.  That will be 2014.  I will be 41.  Am I wasting my time for any kind of career for these studies?  I am told that my age will be a factor.  I also see in some places online that they want you to be under 37.  What kind of jobs will be my options?  I was so excited about doing this and now I feel kind of let down.  Help please

Answer
Denise,

I see no problems with you going through with your plans.

Why not look into the field now and see what happens? Get hired by an agency and let them pay for some of that college. Many agencies, not all, have tuition assistance programs.

Even at 41, I don't see a problem. I know a lot of people that have retired from the military in their late 30's early 40's and they have been hired. A lot of federal agencies have age restrictions, but most of your state/local agencies do not.

Good luck and best wishes!
