Careers: Police/Civilian Hire Question
Expert: Jim Pastore - 8/10/2009
QuestionI am being completely honest because all I have to go on is how much I have accomplished in my life waiting and hoping for a secure permanent position. Everywhere I turn every question is directed at Police Officers and what there challenges will be when reaching the Background Investigation stage. My question is, I am currently at the BI stage and have an appointment on Thursday. I have obtained my Disp. which were Dismissed. I went through a treatment program for substance abuse in 1985 graduated and becamse a Substance Abuse Counselor for 3 years. I have 21 or 23 years clean of everything. I don't even drink. I have sent letters to my creditors and requested a payment option as I am not employed and can send all the I can at the moment. I graduated from college have an Associate Degree and a Bachelor Degree both in Administration, and over 14 years of off and on employment nothing stable. I have went through a depression phase when my mom died and I am no longer in treatment and have my therapist card to give to my investigator. I have passed every step up until this point...........My investigation is on Thursday, what are my chances of being DQ.
AnswerCharlene,
I can't say what chance you have because I truly don't know. Every Department is different. All I can tell you is from past experience is to be totally honest with the investigator as deception will come out in the polygraph stage or even the background investigation. You sound passionate about wanting to get hired and I'm sure that will show in your interview. Honesty is always the best policy. Don't give up trying. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
