This is patrol Pollock with the U.S. Army and i was wondering if it would be easier for me to get a SWAT position because I would already have the experience in some of the fields than others or would i still have to do the same go to the academy and be on patrols for awhile

The short answer is yes you would have to progress through the ranks of the police department the same as any other officer which would mean that you would have to spend several years in patrol before you would ever be eligible to apply for a SWAT position.
Your experience in the army might help you when it comes to applying for SWAT. But no one goes straight into SWAT. It would be like a Boy Scout who knows first aid going straight into being a paramedic. Those things do not happen.

Young people should not rely on the Internet for interviews. Local police officers are normally very agreeable to assist students with interviews and surveys.

Received numerous awards during my police career for expert investigations. Handled the most sensitive and confidential investigations. In 1999 I won an award for my work with high school students while working in my new career in a large suburban high school.
