Question
After posting the previous question to you about getting hired, I found the info that you posted on the officer.com forum. It was very informative. I would still like to know your opinion about how long it could typically take to get hired on average and have you ever heard of it taking 4 years and the individual finding themselves having to get certified again. Thank you in advance.

Hey Val,

Glad you found my post. I think it answers a lot of questions people have on that subject. As for how long it takes. Anywhere from 3 months to a year, depending on the department, how many applicants they have, how many background investigators they have, and how badly they want/ need officers.

I have heard of people taking years to get hired, but those are few and far apart. If it takes that long, there is usually a reason somewhere.

I have been a police officer for 30+ years! I am a 30+ year veteran police officer, I am currently the Police Academy Commander of an Academy in North FLorida. I have been training police officers since 1993 and have trained them in all aspects of law enforcement, including firearms, Driving and legal subjects including patrol techniques and others and training all over the world. I have trained over 5000 officers worldwide in the last 16 years of training.
