Questionwhats the first course you take before becoming a cop?
AnswerHello Bailey,
Sorry, but it doesn't work that way.
For most local and state law enforcement agencies, you need to have at least a high school or GED diploma. For many of the federal agencies, you'll need college.
The more education and skill sets you have at application time, the more attractive you become to the recruiter....(other issues being equal).
I would suggest you focus on written and oral communications. These skills will serve you well in any agency you hire on with. You will spend a great deal of your time engaged in one form of communications or another.
Naturally, no drugs, alcohol abuse, or criminal record is an expectation. You also want a clean driving record, and no stupid/avoidable debt issues.
If you want to delve into other substantive subjects, I would suggest you study 4th Amendment issues, to the Constitution.
You might also check with whatever agencies you are interested in, as to what their requirements are, for new hires.
Most agencies have a web site these days, or you can stop and visit with a recruiter.
Hope this is helpful.
Good Luck.
