Question
QUESTION: Hi my name is Jared and i was wondering what would the disqualification for any kind of job in law enforcement?

ANSWER: They are many, from drug use, to domestic violence, to having a bad driving record.  Some agencies require a college education.  The list varies from place to place.  Far too many to list here.  If you are wondering about something specific, I can answer that.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: well to follow up to that i was just barely charged with a domestic assault and simple assault, but i did not plead guilt to any of them. I was wondering if you might know what i should tell my lawyer to work towards if he can not convince the state to take the charges off my record.

ANSWER: Just barely......sorry, there is no such thing.   If you've been convicted, that means the Lautenberg Amendment applies, and you can NEVER carry a firearm.   You are going to have major issues in getting hired even if your record is totally expunged, since you'll have to divulge the circumstances of why you were arrested during a background.

If you haven't been to court yet, only a 'not guilty' verdict will work.  Anything else is going to pretty much eliminate your chances of law enforcement work.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Ok then so what I am asking, is what should i tell my lawyer IF he can not get both of those charges off. What would be the best alternative to fight for, if he can not convince the judge before my case goes to trail

Answer
Only a not guilty verdict in this is going to help in this case.   If it's domestic related and you are convicted, any chance of a LEO career is over.  Realistically at this point your chances aren't the greatest anyway, since you were charged.    Your lawyer will know the best course of action to take regarding a possible plea bargain.
