Question
Hey Loren, I was just wondering what job wood be best in the Air Force so I can be prepared to become a SWAT member and I also want to know if there are any specific training that I wood have to do to achieve that position?

Answer
Hello Victor,
Actually, it's been a while from when I was around SWAT officers. So, the specific training might change a bit.
The obvious areas I'm sure, are still valid, as are areas of support services, e.g., all first aid certs, communications, electricity, computers, multi-lingual etc.
I suspect the Air Rescue units would be a consideration. Like the special ops units of other branches of service, there are more similarities, than differences.
Discipline, team-concept, and mission, or goal(s) attainment are huge issues.
Obvious stuff include fire arms proficiency, chemical munitions, martial arts, repelling, tactical ops, etc.
Each agency has their criteria for special ops consideration, including off probationary status, and attendant administrative and labor organization issues.
When eligible at a particular agency, then it comes down to which candidate can pony up the most/best ksa's (knowledge, skills, abilities) that are relevant...usually are favored.
I would strongly urge you to concentrate on getting hired, at the entry level position, of the agency you prefer as your primary goal.
Don't look for a special ops opportunity in less that 5 years or so...
The entry level job is the biggie....then, you'll be an "insider", and will be in proximity to all of the special ops officers, and discover what qualities, and skill-sets are in demand.
You can also consider the military police in the AF, as that will most closely associate you with the essentials of civilian entry level police jobs.
Hope this is helpful.
Good Luck,
Semper Fi.
