I am interested in the police academy in Gainesville. Is there a policy against dreadlocks?

Hi Ashley,

Yes there is a policy on hair. Female hair must not be down or touch the collar, and it must be able to be placed in a short ponytail or bun for safety reasons.

Here is the quoted text from their rules:
2.   Female Recruits: must be neat and well groomed and it must be secured in a style that is not likely to contribute to an injury during physical contact or other types of physical training. Hair will be worn in a fashion as to keep the hair up off of the collar while standing at the position of attention.

C.   Hairstyles: Eccentric hairdos and exotic hair colors are not permitted. Graphic designs and hair ornaments are not permitted. All Recruits (male & female) will have hair that is neat and well kept. Recruits who have long hair will wear the hair in a style that will take the hair up off of the collar.

I have been training police officers since 1993 and have trained them in all aspects of law enforcement, including firearms, Driving and legal subjects including patrol techniques and others and training all over the world.
