Question
Back in 2001 I had pled guilty to simple assault, for stupid reasons, I feel I was tricked into it, but none the less, I plead guilty, It was involving my ex wife, without bad mouthing her, she was a depressed person before I met her and an over dramatic person. She was suffering from post partom depression at the time, of her said incident, I did not lay my hands on her if that is what your thinkinging, she called police and said I had hit her, but what in all actuality all that happen was I hit the wall by the door and then when cops showed up everything was calm and they put me in hand cuffs and i freaked out and said if i do go to jail i will kick your a**  sorry for language. any how i went to jail. In georgia simple assault is classified as a verbal threat. I was wanting to know, if this would prevent me becoming a police officer. as far as I know of it isnt clasified as domestic or family abuse. or at least when employers do background check it doesnt show up like that. thank you in advance for your help, and and all info would be help full, one last thing this happen in 2001 i think i was 20 or 21 and i am now 31..

Answer
Hi William,

I don't think a simple assulat 10 years ago will affect your chances much. It all depends on the number of applicants for a position and is there anyone better qualified than you. Legally your OK.

Hope that naswers your question.
