Question
I just graduated high school and tried to enlist in the Coast Guard. I got a 56 on my asvab (need a 40 to qualify for USCG) and went to meps the next day for the physical. I got dq'ed because of flat feet (I passed all of the other parts of the physical). My second career choice was to be a Florida L.E.O.. Would flat feet prevent me from obtaining my goal?They do not hurt and i exercise weekly. I do wear orthotics but my feet are fine without them.

Hey Rob,

You are fine and having flat feet will not stop you from trying to be a LEO. Go for it. They don't even check for that on our medicals that I know of. If you can walk and run, your good to go. Even had a recruit make it through with a leg that had been shot and injured badly, he limed a little, but he could run and jump and do all the required stuff. He made it through and passed.

I am a 30+ year veteran police officer, I am currently the Police Academy Commander of an Academy in North FLorida. I have been training police officers since 1993 and have trained them in all aspects of law enforcement, including firearms, Driving and legal subjects including patrol techniques and others and training all over the world. I have trained over 5000 officers worldwide in the last 16 years of training.
