Question
After 30 years of police work, including 14 years as a detective and many more as a supervisor, I am exploring retirement and looking towards finding another job to supplement my pension.

As part of my networking efforts, can you suggest employers who would be interested in my skills?

Can you refer me to someone with experience in preparing resumes specifically for retired law enforcement personnel?

Thanks.

Answer
I guess a lot depends on where you are as far as finding a job.  I retired from a large department and we have a retiree website that lists all kinds of jobs in the Los Angeles area.  Not knowing where you are located, you might check to see if a large agency close to you has a website and hone in what they might offer.  Unless you are inclined toward private eye stuff, I'd forget finding much there.  In that you were a supervisor, you might find something in the order of security for large department store like Target, Walmart and Home Depot/Lowes.  The supervisor jobs might pay in the range you are looking for.  There are quite a few overseas jobs in high risk areas that pay well but put you in jeopardy.  Any resume place can do a good job highlighting your skills...they have a lot of experience making a person shine.  Good luck!

I`ve spent twenty-five years in law enforcement as a state trooper and deputy sheriff. Retired as a lead homicide investigator. My interest is in answering questions dealing with ethical and moral dilemmas facing officers in the field.
