Question
hi, i'm currently enrolled in a criminology and forensic technology course because i've always dreamed of being a crime scene investigator. it's a 2 year course and i would be recieving my AS degree. would that certify me as an investigator, or no? i know i should ask my program chair, but he's rather difficult to get in touch with, and also, i wanted to know if it was even the right route to take before i invest 2 years in the wrong course. i also was wondering, what are the general requirements to be a CSI? Thank you.

Answer
Brittany,I personally think that a four-year degree in a specialty would better prepare you for a career in CSI.  The most useful tool for investigators, especially involving homicides is DNA and it requires a scientific background.  I would find a nearby crime lab, ask to interview the director and chief scientists and ask him/her what background would best suit you for the career you have chosen.
