There are training facilities that train civilians in proper fire arm use, tactical use and so on. Would acquiring any of these certificates assist me in finding a career in criminal justice? I was also discharged from the military with a general under honorable conditions discharge would that affect my chances as well? I have no criminal record or no major traffic violations.

Freedy, acquiring firearms training before attending a law enforcement academy really doesn't do one much good.  The more important aspect in your case is the general discharge. All will depend on how you approach this, particularly with the oral board.  Get yourself a good explanation that will mitigate any questions they may have regarding your committment to your law enforcement goals.  Everything has a reasonable explanation...practice what you have to say and make it sound reasonable to the ordinary perosn.
