Question -
In your opinion, what gives someone the edge in a law enforcement career?
Answer -
James,

I'm not real sure what your refering to. An edge to get hired? Or the edge to excell in in the law enforcement career?

Jim,
If you could, can you provide insight on both, getting hired and excelling after being hired.

Answer
James
Getting hired is pretty simple. Most Departments that give exams will give extra credit for several things. 1. Being a veteran. 2. Having a degree in just about any subject. 3. Having your police schooling and certification. As far as the interview, show common sense, compassion, and motivation.

Once your hired I would recommend to be fair, always show compaction when needed, use common sense, always be motivated and remember one thing. Most calls can be handled with your mouth, in other words treat people like you want to be treated. If you give respect you will get respect back 99.9% of the time. There is always one out a hundred that this doesn't work for. Keep these in mind and I'm sure you will be an excellent officer.

Good Luck

Jim
