Question
What are some unique ethical dilemmas that homicide detectives face?

I am taking criminal justice at the University of Phoenix, I have 4 classes left till I receive my Associates Degree. I am alredy signed up for my Bachelors Degree. I really want a career in law inforcement, I do not know if my past wil allow it though. I have two felonies one that is 21 years old and one that is 15 years old. How will this affect my career?

Answer
I guess the most prevalent problem is burnout on what are consider bad cases, for example, gang banger killings where no one seems to want to help investigators.  As a result, some detective give gang cases short efforts.  Not a good thing but some agencies mount specific programs to help alleviate this burnout such as requiring new detectives to the unit to investigate only gang cases for a year to see how they work out.  I cannot answer your question relative to your two felonies.  It would seem that it would be a significant roadblock for you.  Can't paint it any better.  Of course, it depends on what you were convicted of and how you could explain what occurred.
