QuestionWhat are some unique ethical dilemmas that homicide detectives face?
I am taking criminal justice at the University of Phoenix, I have 4 classes left till I receive my Associates Degree. I am alredy signed up for my Bachelors Degree. I really want a career in law inforcement, I do not know if my past wil allow it though. I have two felonies one that is 21 years old and one that is 15 years old. How will this affect my career?
AnswerI guess the most prevalent problem is burnout on what are consider bad cases, for example, gang banger killings where no one seems to want to help investigators. As a result, some detective give gang cases short efforts. Not a good thing but some agencies mount specific programs to help alleviate this burnout such as requiring new detectives to the unit to investigate only gang cases for a year to see how they work out. I cannot answer your question relative to your two felonies. It would seem that it would be a significant roadblock for you. Can't paint it any better. Of course, it depends on what you were convicted of and how you could explain what occurred.
