Question
Hello,

My husband has been trying to get with the police department for the past 3 years.  He has filled out several applications and has done several test.  He finally made it to the interview process which is scheduled tomorrow.  He wants to be prepared for it.  What should he expect?  What types of questions do they typically ask?  Should he ask questions, if so what kinds of questions?  She he wear a suit or just a shirt tie and slacks?  Should he take a copy of his resume/cover letter since the application mirror his resume already?

Thank you for your advice

Answer
The questions vary. He should show that he has common sense and also has some compassion. He needs to be able to make sound decisions so he should be sure of himself. They usually are not looking for some super cop in the interview process. What they usually want is someone who uses good judgement, good character and knows not all situations are alike. At least this has been my experience. As for what he wears, I would wear a nice pressed suit as he will be wearing a uniform if he get's hired. This will help show how professional he would look. Also I always brought a copy of my resume and letters of recommendation with me top all my interviews. Make sure he has enough copies to hand out. This will help show he is well prepared and organized. The questions will vary, just have him be truthful and use common sense. I hope this helped somewhat. Let me know if he get's hired.

Jim
