Question
Do I have to go to a university/tech school to study criminal justice before I join a police academy? How do I find out exactly what I need? How do I sign up to join the SC Police Academy?

Thanks for the question.

In South Carolina you are required to be hired full-time with a police agency prior to attending the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

There are some states that have regional academies that allow persons to pay their way through, and then they are eligible to be hired by various law enforcement departments within that region, but not in South Carolina.
