Careers: Police/Question about the Taser and the AFID system

Question
I was just reading up on the AFID system of identifying when a Taser gun is used and who by for research for a story I'm writing.  (The AFID system is the confetti with the serial number of the Taser cartridge that's deployed when the civilian model is fired) I have a technical question:  How long does it take, once the serial number of the cartridge is determined by the police, to get information on who the cartridge was registered to?  Are we talking days?  Hours?

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

Answer
Rob,

Thanks for the question.

I apologize for taking so long to get back in touch with you, but the question just came to me in my E-Mail system. Not sure of why there was a delay in receiving it?

If the agency where the Taser cartridge came from has a good inventory system, it should only take a couple of minutes to determine where the cartridge came and what officer is accountable for the cartridge.

If the agency does not have a tracking/inventory system, you would need to contact Taser International directly, and they could tell you what agency the cartridge was sent to or to what law enforcement equipment distributorship it was sent to.

Good luck and best wishes!
