Careers: Police/TASER Info?

Question
Hi there:

I am a writer who is currently doing a bit of research for a scene in which my main character gets "TASERed."  I was wondering if you could tell me what exactly happens when someone is TASERed?  For example, is contact made, as I think it is, by two tiny "darts" that actually penetrate the skin?  And I especially need to know the following details:  Does the person urinate on himself, and am I correct in assuming that he does NOT lose consciousness?  Also, once the current is turned off, how does the person feel?  Can he get up right away, or does he feel sick, dizzy, weak, etc.?

I know these questions are sort of strange, but as I said above they are for novel research ONLY.  Thank you so very much for your time and expertise, sir!   :)

Answer
Mr. Newman,

Thanks for the question.

You can receive a ton of information if you make an inquiry at www.taser.com.

I am a Taser instructor and I have used my Taser on several resistant suspects as well as numerous officers undergoing Taser qualification/certification. No one has ever lost consciousness nor have they ever urinated/deficated.

I could write for hours concerning the Taser, but you would probably enjoy the Taser Web Site more. The Taser International, Inc. Company has lots of medical, training, and historical information on their Web Site as well as actual use videos.

Good Luck!
