Question
Hello My name is Nathan and him with the Army National Guard as a Infantryman and I was wondering how helpful that would be in Law Enforcement Im wanting to become a State Trooper or get into SWAT as far as my marksmenship goes with a weapon Im a qualified sharpshooter him just wondering how helpful the Infantry would be and just looking for advice,my Drill Sergeant last name was Payne btw

Answer
Nathan,

Thanks for the question.

Military service is good and beneficial in so many ways.

Most individuals coming out of the military are very disciplined, mature, physically fit and highly motivated. This is something all law enforcement agencies strive to attract.

SWAT qualification and appointment is a separate process from most if not all recruit officer hiring. Unless of course you were being hired in specifically for that purpose.

Most of the time you will have to work at an agency 2-5 years before you are eligible to apply for a SWAT position, and with that time requirement, you have to maintain an above average evaluation, maintain a certain level of physical fitness, excellent marksmanship, no detrimental actions taken against you and etc.

Hope this helps out.

Good luck and best wishes!
