Question
Is there much of a threat to the family of a police officer from "police haters"?  The situation I have in mind is, the cop has a take home cruiser.  When the cruisers not in the driveway he is at work, theoretically leaving the family some what vulerable.  Or is this really not much of a concern?

Answer
Caleb, I don't particularly like the idea of taking marked police cars home...given the quirky nature of some, it seems a handy target for someone who feels they have received a bad shake from the police...if not malicious mischief to the vehicle, then possible harm to the spouse or children of the officer....point being, I think it is not a good idea.
